5 Unconventional Ideas for your Wedding Entertainment
10 May 2017
Our most popular acts are undoubtedly music-based. Many couples opt to hire a wedding band or a DJ for the day and anything else is secondary. We love magicians at weddings as well as caricaturists, but these are often secondary for couples on a tight budget and it makes sense – when most people think of their wedding reception, they think music! But let’s say you have a slightly higher budget and are looking for some unconventional wedding entertainment ideas. Can we help? Oh yes we can!
Bouncy Castle
Who wouldn’t love a bouncy castle at their wedding? We don’t just mean booking one for the children that may be in attendance; we mean hiring a bouncy castle for the adults as well. They’re fun and provide a fabulous summer fête-style atmosphere that most couples don’t have on their wedding day. Plus, the bride and groom have just got married! They’ll be jumping for joy anyway so why not harness that energy?!
Silhouette Artist
Popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Silhouette Artists have to be seen to be believed. With just a pair of scissors and a piece of card, they can accurately snip out a profile silhouette of any guest at your party. They affix this to a differently coloured card and that’s it; a memento of your wedding day that they can keep for the rest of their lives. It’s a beautiful art and one that is hugely popular at weddings and events across Devon and Cornwall.
Ice Cream
Another wonderful idea for a summer wedding, an ice cream van or ice cream trike is a lovely way to break up the speeches and might even save you a bit of money on the wedding breakfast. Why have everybody seated at a table for the dessert and speeches when you can head outside instead? Also ideal as an option instead of a drinks reception (nobody minds getting a 99 instead of a glass of champagne), we are confident that booking ice cream is sure to impress even those who are the hardest to please!
A Bespoke Painting
This is one of the most interesting ideas we’ve ever seen in wedding entertainment and as a subsidiary of Trevor George and Sternberg Clarke, that’s saying a lot! The idea is that Dave will paint your wedding venue as it appears on your wedding day. A painting that can be kept by the couple and framed for all eternity! Photographs are all well and good but how many people can boast a painting of their wedding day?! A truly remarkable act.
Fire Show
Be honest, how many fire shows have you seen at weddings that you’ve attended? The answer is probably none at all and that’s a shame because done well, fire illuminates your entire venue and is mesmerising for all guests. Family and friends will be delighted as Juggling Inferno run through their idyllic and hypnotic routine. Perfect for ending the entertainment on a high, booking a fire show will ensure a relaxing culmination to your big day.
